As a follow-up to my previous post, I have three comments on this article:

1. “Failing to set apart the new tablet by name could lead to brand confusion for consumers who own the original device, also called iPad, or for purchasers of later versions, said Matt Gordon, director of naming and writing for Landor Associates, a brand consulting firm based in San Francisco.” Erm, OK, and why is that? Apple don’t attach version numbers to other devices and computers.

2. I forgot the iPod in my post – Apple never has version numbers for iPods, so why do they need to do it for iPad or iPhone?

3. It’s a good point that in some ways not numbering device versions adds to Apple’s dominant image…”everyone else has to think-up ridiculous names for there devices, we don’t need to because we’re different and we’re successful”.
