Totally agree. Based completely on nothing more than my own common-sense and the typical speed at which technology moves (or at least reaches a state that is useful to the general public), I predict that at some point in the next 10 years the GUI will become the secondary interface to speech for most general-purpose computing uses. Sometime after that (20 years, so in about 2030?) it will disappear altogether. After that, the next logical UI revolution will be thought control, but it will take a long-time for that to become both usable and reliable. I’d bet later this century, and few people reading this will be around to see that in widespread use – maybe my son (Soichiro) who will be 4 years old in 2012.
