Really gripping account of what it’s like to work in a distribution warehouse for an online retailer. This is in the US, and I assume things are probabaly similar in the UK.
What strikes me, apart from how lucky I am not to have work in a place like this, is: a). Few people are aware just how appalling the working conditions are in these places.b). How this relates to the recent stories of appalling working conditions in factories in China. I’m not comparing the working conditions directly (I’m sure the conditions in the story are very good compared to some conditions in China) but it’s a striking reminder that many, many people in every country have to do terrible work in abysmal conditions for very low wages.
