This is rapidly turning into a tragedy for Blackberry. Incredible to think that only 4 years ago RIM were seemingly at the top of their game. The frightening thing for companies in this market is that the inflection point between prosperity and decline seems to happen imperceptibly – by the time quarterly shipments, market share or profits start declining it’s already too late to reverse things. Perhaps this isn’t surprising in a market where major platform changes take 3-4 years minimum and customers are locked into 2 year contracts – it’s like navigating an oil tanker through the arctic circle.
