Here in the UK Siri is a male voice, and a fairly deep one at that. Same in France. In the US and elsewhere it’s female. I’ve wondered why this is – most speech synthesis defaults to a female voice (my TomTom PND for example) as it seems generally accepted that women’s voices are more pleasing than mens. In my mind Siri is like a Butler – formal, middle aged, helpful but distant. Is that the image Apple are trying to nurture for Siri in the UK?
Apple does few things, if any, for no reason or for the sake of speed or economy. There must be a good reason for this choice of a male voice in the UK and France? http://edition.cnn.com/2011/10/21/tech/innovation/female-computer-voices/
